Valuation Procedures and Property Acquisition This two-hour presentation will discuss the Michigan
Department of Transportation real estate operations and work products.
Specific topics include basic condemnation theory and differences with other
types of appraisals. In addition, a summary of the requirements and
expectations for appraisals, appraisal reviews, waiver valuations, temporary
easements will be provided.
Understanding Bias in Values of Neighborhoods
This two-hour discussion looks at the institutionalization
of racial and economic bias in the American neighborhood. The purpose is to bring awareness to how
policy and cultural normalcies have effected who has traditionally had access
to generational wealth building in the United States and the why behind the
exclusion of others. The focus is the
governance of land use, historical financing and banking rules, and government policies
that shifted who had the right to land over the evolution of the United
States.
