EASTERN BRANCH AND NORTHWESTERN BRANCH JOINT MEETING – VIRTUAL
OCTOBER 5, 2021
2:00 PM – 4:00 PM

Marketing Appraisal Services: Insights and
How-To’s on a Rarely Discussed Topic

Photo Verification: REQUIRED
As part of the required attendance monitoring, all students need to provide the Chapter Office with a copy of your Driver's License in advance of the offering.

·         Simply take a picture of your DL with your phone or send a scanned copy to lianna@sccai.org

·         Registrants who have not yet forwarded their photo IDs will be ineligible for credit and will be prohibited from attending the seminar

Required Equipment

It is the student's responsibility to have the required equipment - dependable Internet access, computer, webcam and microphone.  As noted in the material section below, some registrants who opt not to print out the seminar materials may find a secondary device (Ipad, cell phone, laptop or desktop computer) helpful during instruction.

·         A webcam is required.  The instructor and/or session monitor must be able to see each of the students and verify that they have access to the seminar materials throughout the presentation.  If you do not have a camera on your computer, they are available at BestBuy and other online retailers starting at around $30.

·         Webcams must remain on throughout the offering.  Those who turn off their webcams jeopardize receipt of CE credit.  No camera = no credit.

·         Joining the offering with a cell phone is not recommended as these devices often lead to connection problems.  Cell phones are better utilized solely as a secondary devise.

·         Students must be able to see and be seen. They must be able to view the instructor's PowerPoint, and follow along in handbook all at the same time, while the instructor sees them.

Additional Information

TOPIC:

Steve’s seminar will focus on how appraisers can market their skill set to a diverse range of potential clients.  This includes prospecting potential clients, outlining your skill set to a potential client and (critically) listening to and discerning the needs (spoken and unspoken) of a client.  Steve will highlight the importance of staying in contact with a client throughout the process to avoid “surprises” at the end, responding to feedback, and leaving the door open for future work.  Steve has a wealth of knowledge in this area, and his success in developing clients has enabled him to diversify the products and services he can offer.  Steve’s seminar will include time for questions/comments.

SPEAKER:

Steven R. Norris, MAI, CRE majored in Economics at UCLA and subsequently became a member of the Appraisal Institute, Counselors of Real Estate, and member of the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors. For the past 20 years he has been the principal of Norris Realty Advisors, a commercial real estate valuation and consulting firm. The firm provides both valuation and advisory services to a wide variety of clients, including consulting for mortgage financing purposes, pension fund advisors, insurance companies, governmental agencies, high net worth trust and estate valuation, as well as expert witness and taxation issues. The firm has also been involved in a number of highly complex and unusual valuation assignments, with a specialization in forensic valuation, litigation support, rightofway, and infrastructure consulting. Mr. Norris is a Counselor of Real Estate, which is a select international membership organization of approximately 1,000 top international real estate leaders who provide intelligent, unbiased, and trusted real estate advice on the most complex and challenging public and investment real estate issues facing their clients. Mr. Norris has also been called on to provide expert deposition, testimony, and arbitration services numerous times for various real estate valuation matters. He is currently an instructor with UCLA Extension and the Anderson School, with a specialty in Argus cash flow analysis. He has published a number of articles and papers on various real estate valuation and counseling matters. He has served previously on the National Ethics Committee and continues ongoing involvement with the Consulting Corps of the Counselors of Real Estate, as well as service as Board Member and President (2015) of the Southern California Chapter of the Appraisal Institute. He is also a Panelist with the American Arbitration Association National Roster of Arbitrators. Mr. Norris is also an ongoing member of the Standards Setting Committee of the International Ethics Standards Coalition (IESC). The IES Coalition gathered for its first meeting at the United Nations in New York, October 2014. While numerous professional organizations have based their standards on common principles such as integrity, transparency and trustworthiness, there was no overarching standard to which all land, property, construction, infrastructure and related professional organizations could subscribe. The global Coalition has now published the International Ethics Standards, which consists of high level principles which will be implemented by Coalition organizations worldwide, thus providing greater consistency to users of professional services.
